Trend Alert: Classic Capes

There's a reason we've spotted so many celebrities in capes: the garment is chic and adds instant glamour to any outfit. Browse through our favorite celebrity-inspired looks and find some of our picks for the season at different price points.

Dressed to perfection, Olivia Wilde posed in a bell-shaped cape with brass buttons while on location filming an upcoming movie. Select a similar cape that is flirty and can wear well on its own.

Lady Gaga stepped out in all black, but make no mistake: she still drew attention with her flounced cape.

Carey Mulligan sported a fresh, menswear-inspired cape suit. The absence of a shirt made the look that much more sexy.

Black offers surefire elegance. Hayden Panettiere slid a button-up number over her colorful outfit; Christina Hendricks' glitzy black attire peeked out from her standard cape; and Uma Thurman topped off her skinny black slacks and white blouse with a collared cape.

Even in a monochrome palette, Rachel Zoe's plaid cape made a statement. Notice its trendy toggle closures. A cape in a similar print can also pair well with bold colors.

Kate Hudson's geometric Louis Vuitton cape could stand alone as her entire outfit. Show off some skin by turning the outerwear into a sexy dress, complete with classic patent leather pumps.

Both Carey Mulligan and Miranda Kerr stepped out in the same long grey wool cape and chose fitted dresses similarly styled with chunky belts. Similarly, try leaving a lengthy cape coat open to expose a cute outfit.

Paris Hilton and Victoria Pendleton may not seem to have much in common, but they share the same taste in outerwear. Both sportsx chic khaki capes with black leather trim, which they each layered over similar black attire.

Kim Kardashian knows that a cape is a must-have wardrobe piece. Her silhouettes have ranged from elegant black to casual hooded; and two-toned to trendy when tied in a big grey bow.
