Trend to Try: Plaid Coats

When the chill of the next few months really sets in, your coats and jackets will quickly become your most worn and most often seen pieces in your closet. It makes perfect sense, then, to invest in statement outerwear that you're proud to put on display for several months of blustery weather. This year's go-to version? Plaid.

There's just something about plaid. It's almost inextricably tied to that cozy, nostalgic feeling the colder months and holidays bring. It evokes thoughts of log cabins and rugged mountain men and the rolling countryside. Plus, this pattern is surprisingly versatile. Adding it to an outfit that features stripes or polka dots will make you look like a print-mixing master and there's no better pattern to pump up an outfit composed of neutrals.
